Seriously if I had the resources to create one of those Buzz Feed Tasty videos, I would do this gluten free vegan chocolate pudding recipe for you because it is so damn easy.

All you need is two ripe Banana's, two ripe avocado's and two tbsp of cocoa (just make sure the the cocoa is gluten free):

Put all in food processor...

.. and presto!

You can adjust the ratios to your liking.  More cocoa = more chocolate, more banana = more sweet and more avocado = more creamy smoothness.

Buco's in St. Albert Gluten Free Review

I always say this, but we love when our readers send in their own guest blog posts.  This is from Erin who visited Buco's in St. Alberta

I looked up the menu online prior to going and was pleased to find many Gluten Friendly options listed. I’m aware of the possibility of cross contamination, however I did not feel ill after my meal. Although the menu does not list the garlic pizza appetizer as gluten friendly, we asked the server if the kitchen could make this using the gluten free pizza dough, and they were happy to do this. We had this with the salsa verde sauce and both my husband (who is not celiac) and I enjoyed it. I had the Grigliata Mista (mixed grill) for my entrée. It had porchetta, chicken and Italian sausage and was served with potatoes and arugula salad. I chose the garlic aioli dip with my entrée. The meat was perfectly prepared and each part was absolutely delicious. I was too full for dessert but the server indicated that the chocolate mousse and one other dessert (which I unfortunately can’t recall) were gluten friendly.

Mc Donald's Gluten Free Lettuce Wrap Hamburger

Although McDonald's will never claim gluten free on their menu because of cross contamination risk, they do have plenty of options that do not contain gluten.

With that being said check out their Nutrition Centre and download their ingredient guide.  They list ingredients for all of their items, and indicate gluten when included in a menu item.

Some tips:
  • McDonald's french fries do not contain any gluten, and infact are fried in dedicated fryers due to the sheer volume of fries that are made.
  • A McDonald's hamburger patty does not contain any fillers, but always check the seasoning and sauces you put on it.
  • The new create your taste system allows you to customize your burger down to the T.
  • Did you know that you can order a lettuce wrap burger at McDonald's which gives you a quick and easy gluten free option with an order of fries?

Why is it important to check their website before each visit?  The McDonald's ingredients list is often updated and quite extensive.  Each section is split into two parts.  It first lists off the menu item, and what comes with that menu item.  It then lists ingredients of each element of that menu item.  The document is 30 pages long, so it is quite extensive, as it should be.

What else do you need to know about eating at McDonald's?  There is definitely a risk of cross contamination, so approach with caution.  Just like when you are eating at any other restaurant ask if they can clean utensils and clean the food prep surface for you to help reduce the risk.

Gluten Free Slow Cooker Roast

We made this roast in the slow cooker and it was amazing.
  • We used 5 cab boneless blade roast tied
  • 4 tsp veg oil
  • 3 onions chopped medium
  • 1 lbs carrots cut into chunks
  • 6 garlic cloves minced 
  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • 28 oz can of crushed tomato 
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme
  • 3 bay leaves

  1. Brown roast on all sides in 2 tsp of oil for about 10 minutes and place in slow cooker
  2. Cook onion and carrots in same pan with another 2 tsp of oil for 5 minutes until just softened.
  3. Stir in garlic for 15 seconds
  4. Stir in wine scraping up bits and reduce t half (1-2 minutes) and pour all into slow cooker
  5. Add crushed tomato, broth, thyme, bay leaves to slow cooker. 
  6. Cook on high for 6 hours or low for 9.
  7. Remove roast to tent and rest.
  8. Discard bay leaves 
  9. Scoop half of the liquid and veggies into blender or food processor and let cool before blending into sauce.
  10. Carve roast and serve on plate with remaining veggies. Pour some sauce on top of roast and serve the rest in a saucer.
