Gluten Free Potato Cheddar Soup by Johnny's

I recently saw this soup at Costco, certified gluten free Potato Cheddar soup from Johnny's.

Lucky for me, Costco was sampling some so I got to try some without having to buy any.  We always buy the Johnny's Dill Ranch dressing which is really tasty and the kids love using it as a veggie dip.  So I was expecting something pretty tasty and it was.  This box of twenty 24 servings is about 11 bucks and worth it to have on hand for a cold winter day.

Someone found gluten free wontons

It was not to long ago when I got a message from someone looking for a gluten free wonton.  They said it is one things that they truly miss!  I didn't have a response for them.  I only know of great gf spring rolls we get from Bens Meats.

One of our readers Susan emailed me this weekend with this great find!  She found gluten free wontons!
On the weekend I was at Lucky Supermarket in Edmonton (13851-127 St) and found GF wontons (wontons are one of the things I miss most since becoming gluten free).

They are very tasty (although the texture of the wrapper is typically odd - I found them very yummy and didn't mind the texture).  --Susan

Burger Priest Answers Your Gluten Free Prayers

One of our friends would talk about this burger joint in Toronto she would visit for a great gluten free burger.  Every visit we made to Toronto, we'd never quite make it down to the joint.  Great news is that The Burger Priest now has a location in Edmoton.  Downtown to be specific at Jasper Ave. and 109 Street, beside the Kyoto Japan.

The Burger Priest has two menus.  It has their regular menu, and their secret menu, which they say is the worst kept secret.  Needless to say their menu is a bit whimsical on religion like the Religious Hypocryte, which is their veggie burger topped with bacon.

Their website also has great information in their FAQ section about their gluten free options to help you make the decision if the burger priest is a place where you want to eat.  To round it off, they full out say they are unable to guarantee no cross contamination. They do say:

  1. They have a dedicated fryer for fries
  2. No filling in their burgers but cooked on the same grill as other contaminated items
  3. Their chili does not contain gluten
  4. They have a gluten free bun (when we visited it was from All But Gluten)
  5. They will also lettuce wrap the burger for you

During our first visit, Amanda decided she wanted to try the Red Sea burger which was topped with their very tasty chili.  We took a second take at the hamburger, because we had never seen the All But Gluten bun.  The bun was larger than their standard bun and looked fluffy, so we thought they put the wrong burger on in the gluten free bun.  But we were certainly mistaken and pleased because the All But Gluten bun was pretty damn awesome and went well with the Red Sea burger.  Their fries were really addictive too, and we were happy they are done in a dedicated fryer.  We basically shared a fry order because they are pretty large, and shared a milk shake as well (not the malted shake).

We will probably visit the Burger Priest again!

The Rec Room opened up a while ago in Edmonton's South Common.  This is not to be mistaken with Ed's Room.  This is The Rec Room, which is actually owned by Cineplex Entertainment.

Woodvale Community Facility and Millwoods Golf Centre

We recently attended a wedding at the Woodvale Community Facility at the Millwoods Golf Centre.  We were not sure what to expect catering wise.  When I RSVP'd I asked my friend if there would be a gluten free meal option for Amanda, and if not, that would be okay.  We were prepared to make due.  My friend got back to us saying the Chef will have something ready for her, and to just check in with him upon arrival.

The buffet was gorgeous and made up of several different salads, potatoes, veggies, chicken and a carving station for roast beef.

As tables were preparing to get their dinners, Amanda went to speak with the Chef.  He asked her to hold on a moment and that he personally prepared her meal.  We were very impressed.  To Amanda's delight she got nothing different that was at the buffet, minus a few things like a pasta salad and perogies.

Before the food was put out, the Chef prepared Amanda's movie.  He made sure her meal was uncontaminated, and made some adjustment where needed.  She got a plate off all the salads except for the pasta salad and a package of Litehouse gluten free dressing.  We assume the dressing prepared in the tossed salad was not gluten free.  He also prepared the roast beef for her, with a different gravy as the gravy at the table was once again probably not gluten free.  And finally, below, a gluten free cake slice with fruit!  YES!

It as an honour to be invited to our friends wedding, and celebrate her special day, and just a bonus that Amanda had a delicious meal.
