Press'd Sandwich offers gluten free options

Press'd - The Sandwich Company was one of the first sandwich places Amanda visited that was serving sandwiches on gluten free bread. Press'd was founded right here in Edmonton.

From their menu, Amanda has always loved their Cubano and California Chicken Club which is gluten free friendly. Press'd has a lot more gluten free options and they make it easy for you to see what is gluten free friendly on their menu with a simple legend. They also indicate what is dairy free, vegetarian and high in protein:

Here are some other gluten free friendly options:

  • The Beatnik (Vegetarian)
  • California Club
  • Chipotle Club
  • Club Press'd
  • Green Goddess
  • Ham'n'Swiss
  • Plain Jane Grilled Cheese
  • Southwestern Club
  • The Bird
  • The Cubano
  • The Dilbert
  • The Stampeder
  • Tune Luna
  • Turk'n'Ched
Remember this is a sandwich shop, and they can be messy at times. They can't guarantee no cross contamination during food prep, but our experience at Press'd is that they try to limit cross contamination by switching out gloves, utensils, and prepping in a fresh area.

Be sure to ask staff:

  • How they prepare a gluten free sandwich
  • Don't be afraid to ask for a little more care such as using fresh ingredient bins, changing gloves, ensuring wax paper is used to cover the sandwich is pressed, etc.
  • Remember to always reconfirm ingredients that the sandwiches are still gluten free friendly and that ingredients have not changed.

One great fact about Press'd that makes us want to support them is that they are supporting other business founded in Edmonton. Since introducing their gluten free sandwiches, Press'd has been using locally operated Kinnikinnick to supply its gluten free bread.

Gluten-free friendly bread alternative for everybody

Although some of the larger chains have now introduced gluten free options, we still try to visit Press'd from time to time to support local which has been made easier as Press'd has grown to six locations across Edmonton and area, including St. Albert.

What has been your go-to sandwich at Press'd?

  1. Can't they just use parchment paper around the gluten free sandwiches? -Dani

  2. I asked them, they are looking into different options like that or sandwich bags. A dedicated press did not seem feasible to them.

Also, I didn't ask, but maybe you know, which Kinnikinnick bread are they using?

    Cheers,

  5. I only had 1/2 hr for lunch and really wanted a sandwich (i don't always have time to make lunch) i stood in line to get a sandwich at the city centre pressed location after about 10-15 minutes it was my turn at the till so i orderd a chicken sandwich on gf bread i was told all they have is pre made gf sandwiches to avoid contamination ok and its some hot spicy chicken sandwich? I don't know about you but I have wheat intolerance/celiacs (undergoing testing etc at this point) and IBS so why on earth would a GF sandwich the only option be the three alarm spiciest sandwich they have for people with digestion etc. issues? REALLY??!! so I mentioned this being preposterous as they have what 20 different options with 3+ bread choices for everyone else but nope I was told they can't make accommodations for someone with a Gluten intolerance 'cus then he would have to make accommodations for everyone else.
I think he's (the manager) is accommodating everyone else but being unreasonable.inflexible but just having the sign up saying he has GF sandwiches to say that he has them. I was livid/on the verge of tears/ready to throw something..probably hungry.

Please take Pressed sandwiches off this list as they do NOT offer GF food are not accommodating to those with such needs. Worse they are demeaning to those who have a gluten intolerance and say so. It's not a choice like saying hold the pickles I don't want soggy bread.
