One tequila, two tequila, three tequila floor! - El Cortez serves up yummy gluten free food!

We were recently invited to El Cortez Mexican Kitchen and Tequila Bar to sample their new 2015 winter menu.  Amanda and I always love Mexican food.  Not just because Mexican food uses a lot of corn flour, but because the flavours are bold and beautiful.

We arrived at the event about a half hour into things, so other bloggers and foodies were way ahead of, sampling the delicious flavours El Cortez has to offer.  But we didn't just jump into things, after all, we have to watch what we eat.

It didn't take long for us to find out who was in charge of the event.  After asking one of the smiling servers to speak with someone from the kitchen, Cressida, El Cortez's Marketing Manager came out to speak to us.

We were happy but not to surprised to find out that Cressida has Celiac as well (and that's why we got invited), because she was confident we could enjoy El Cortez's new winter menu.

El Cortez is definitely a happening place to be.  Restaurant upstairs, and bar and lounge downstairs in the cantina.  Very trendy dark yet bright decor that we loved.

Restaurant upstairs. - Very modern, very hip, very trendy
Pretty amazing stairs down to the lounge
We sampled quite a bit of their menu and pretty much enjoyed all of it.  My favourite bite was the cucumber salad and Amanda's favourite bite was the Molten Queso Dip with Chorizo.  Quite frankly, we could have kept on eating if we didn't have a baby sitter waiting for us at home!

The presentation of all the samples were great, and I imagine will be just as beautiful off the menu.  So a little disclaimer for the following photos.  What was served at this party was not complete orders, these were bite size orders for everyone to sample.  If you just want to see what you can order gluten free, scroll right to the bottom.  Cressida was amazing, and within 5 minutes of leaving El Cortez, she emailed us a marked up version of the menu crossing off non-gluten free items, and marketing what can be made gluten free just by asking for their home made corn tortillas.

An assortment of their dips.  The far right is the Molten Queso that Amanda loved

This was probably my second favourite bite, Snapper Ceviche (Remember that small bit is NOT $12, you get a full order)
My favourite bite, the Cucumber Salad with jcama, charred corn and lime dressing

Tostadas
This pumkin caramel custard was actually the
first thing we tried!  Delicious!
Marked up menu so you can see what is and is not gluten free.
