Gluten Free Pho at Ninh Kieu in Edmonton

Here is a review from Holly:

I recently had a great gluten free dining experience and I wanted to share with you since I LOVE your blog.  My boyfriend isn’t a celiac, but always dines at:
Ninh Kieu10708 98 Street NorthwestEdmonton, AB(780) 429-8881
Anyways, he spoke to the owner, Helen, and she assured him that she makes the broth for the Pho from scratch using several different types of bones, therefore making it gluten free.  She said to not use any of the soy and hoisin sauces on the table, and to avoid the meatballs.  Being a highly sensitive celiac, I was a bit apprehensive to try this, but when we arrived at the restaurant, I spoke with Helen and she had a great understanding of what gluten was, and that any small amount of it would make me sick.  Needless to say, I had the pho with brisket and steak and felt great afterwards.
...Helen says she will make a gluten free stirfry upon request

Thank you Holly for this review. Gluten Free Edmonton always appreciates hearing reviews from fellow gluten free folks.

  2. Yay! I was just about to share my experience at Ninh Kieu too but I see that someone has alrady beaten me to it!
I'm always skeptical about going to Asian restaurants in Chinatown because sometimes there's a language barrier (bad experience at Tau Bay... they assured me it was fine. It wasn't) but when the server at Ninh Kieu didn't seem sure, Helen came out and talked to me too. She went through the whole menu with me and told me all of the things I could have - pho is still my favourite but I've also had their grilled shrimp vermicelli bowl, which is good too.

This place isn't nearly as known for its gluten-free friendly menu as it should be I think!
