Padmanadi, a long-time vegan staple in Edmonton, offers a comprehensive and thoughtful gluten-free menu that is perfect for those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities. The alternate menu goes beyond a simple list of ingredients and provides a wide array of options across several categories.
What to Expect on the Menu
- Bowls & Stir-Frys: The menu features a variety of rice and noodle dishes, like the Indonesian-style Nasi Goreng and the wok-tossed Singapore Noodle. These are excellent choices for a hearty meal.
- Shareables: This section is extensive, with dishes like Curry Mutton, which is a gluten-free version of their famous Curry Chicken. Other standout options include the Spicy Coconut Eggplant and the Chili Green Beans.
- Starters, Soups & Salads: For appetizers, you can find items like Deep Fried Tofu served with a sweet soy dipping sauce and crispy Corn Cakes. The menu also includes spicy Tom Yum Soup and a hearty Vegetable Combo Soup.

Ordering Gluten Free at Padmanadi
The menu makes a point of reminding diners to notify their server about any allergies, especially if they have celiac disease, so that dishes can be modified accordingly. This is an important detail to ensure orders are prepared correctly. This also shows that the restaurant takes cross-contamination seriously and encourages communication.

Making their dishes gluten-free is a good option for customers with celiac disease. This makes their restaurant more accommodating.
ReplyDeleteI went there when I was first diagnosed as it was one of my favorite resturants pre gluten free.
ReplyDeleteThe cook refused to make anything GF for us. The server gave the reason as "the cook didnt want to" I havent been back since.
I went to this restaurant for a friend's birthday and the waitress seemed very accomodating but told me that there was a risk of cross contamination (which there obviously is in most restaurants), which is usually fine for me. My friends carefully ordered dishes that I could enjoy as well and the food tasted fine (not great). About two hours later I felt extremely nauseous and dizzy and before I knew it I was miserably sick. This was definitely NOT caused my mere "cross contamination" in an open kitchen - I was "glutened". I will never go back to this restaurant. I have no faith in a restaurant that assures me I can eat their food and then I am most definitely sick from it afterwards.
