So I received an email from La Poutine in the University area of Edmonton. They wanted to let the Celiac community know that they do have a gluten free poutine.
Their gluten free gravy also happens to be vegan. Both their cheese curds and vegan cheese curds are also gluten free, along with their french fries.
Customers wanting to have the gluten free gravy for their poutine should specify so to the cashier.
Amanda and I finally had a chance to check out La Poutine and their much talked about poutine choices. La Poutine is a cute and cozy place, certainly not for big groups, but great to go in with a couple friends for a lunch/snack. Just a few bar tables to sit at. We went on a Sunday afternoon at 2pm, and it was like a revolving door of people coming in and out to have poutine.
We decided to order a traditional and a Quebecois which comes with Montreal Smoked meat. I'll admit, we were bad because didn't ask if the smoked meat was gluten free or not, but it just seemed like a great choice. We did hesitate to order any of the options that had pepperoni or sausages because I wanted to check with the owners via email first. I'm still waiting to hear back, so I will update this when I do.
What we had was so good. Our eyes were certainly bigger than our stomaches that afternoon. We decided to order 2 larges, because we thought, "Well, this is our lunch". Amanda just made it through half of hers before tapping out, and I way over ate, eating about 3/4 of mine. But it was worth it, and so tasty. What a great option for some comfort food with a twist. They have a wide variety of crazy combinations for poutine that are worth trying out:

ReplyDeleteI never heard of this place. Is it quite expensive?
ReplyDeleteGotta try this place. I've been craving vegan poutine for some time now.
ReplyDeletemmmmmm I have been missing poutine - especially since I am fighting with a dairy intolerance, pretty exciting to see that the gravy and the cheese curds are "vegan" - going to have to give this place a try very soon! thanks so much for posting. :)
ReplyDeleteYum! That looks great. I am definitely going to have to check this out.
