Salad bars are starting to pop up across Edmonton. First Freshi in West Edmonton Mall and now a new salad joint opened up in downtown Edmonton that has plenty of gluten free options for a healthy lunch.
Chopped Leaf is located on the main floor of Commerce Place. Their menu has a green gf symbol beside all gluten free items listed on the menu which include:
Gluten free dressings:
Chopped Balsamic
Honey Mustard
Ranch Fruit Vinaigrette
Greek Vinaigrette
Evil Jungle
Creamy Lemon Dill
Gluten free soups:
Spicy Sweet Potato
Caribbean Squash & Sweet Potato
African Spiced Lentil
Thai Curry
Moroccan Chickpea
Potato & Fennel
Creamy Spicy Tomato
Creamy Corn Chowder
Thai Sweet Potato
Vegetarian Chili
Karla from Chopped Leaf also told us "Our Veggie Salad Rolls are made from rice paper and delicately rolled with crisp lettuce, carrots, peppers and fresh basil. Ask for a gluten free dip such as the spiced up citrus Evil Jungle dressing."
Karla also suggested that when ordering gluten free or for any allergy to be sure to tell the servers so they are able to take the proper precautions for the meal preparation. For instance, salads are typically garnished with pita chip, and servers need to know not to add this garnish.
After seeing the success of the healthy choice Press'd Sandwich (no gluten free options) in City Centre food court, I know Chopped Leaf is going to be hugely popular. The downtown core is looking for fresh options like this that is something different than grabbing a meal from Sunterra (located above Chopped Leaf), or a sandwich from Subway. Let us know what you think about Chopped Leaf!
