What's Gluten Free from the Brand No Name?

After a gluten free "scare" of being told that something has gluten in it, when we thought it did not, I went on a search to see if I could find a list of gluten free products from No Name. No Name is the discount brand for Loblaw's and can be found at Superstore locations around Edmonton. www.loblaw.ca Unfortunately I could not find much on the web about this discount brand, but because I knew it was a Loblaw's brand, I went to the Loblaw's website and found some customer service information. During my conversation, I was put to rest after finding the answer to my question "Is your garlic powder gluten free?". The answer from the operator was: "Yes it is gluten free and is made in a gluten free facility". I then asked about their onion powder, and they said "Yes, but we are unable to confirm if it is made in a gluten free facility" I did ask for this information to be listed on the web for easy access, but the

Gluten Free Meatballs from Costco

We just wrote about shopping at Costco for gluten free foods. And we wanted to prove that it is certainly worth it. We bought the gluten free Mamma Nonna's turkey meatballs that are available in the frozen foods section of Costco. (We shop Edmonton's west end Costco) These meatballs are marked gluten free on the packaging. It didn't take long for us to try the meatballs because who doesn't like a good meatball? We have our own meatball recipe that we make (more of a Jewish recipe rather than Italian). So we really wanted something different. Mamma Nonna's meatballs come vacuum packed in marinara sauce in sets of three and there are 5 pouches. Thats a lot of meatballs for $15. And these are not small meatballs either. Although the packaging shows the meatballs in a sandwich, we wanted gluten free spaghetti and meatballs. Amanda notice quickly that there was not really going to be enough sauce for a pasta meal, so she just pulled out her favourite sauc

Denny's has a gluten free English Muffin

Lately, we have been eating at Denny's a fair bit. It seems to be a friendly place for a family to go for a breakfast. There are not a ton of gluten free items available on the menu, but Amanda loved ordering an omelet with pan fried hash brown, or sometimes an egg skillet with sausage. The last time we went, we found out that Denny's has added a gluten free English Muffin for 99 cents. It just popped out on the menu for Amanda under the omelette section. Funny how the letters GF can appear to those who may be looking but to those who aren't it likely just goes completely unnoticed. So for an extra 99 cents, of course Amanda tried the gluten free English Muffin. A few things to think about. The muffin would share a toaster if you asked for it to be toasted. Amanda asked for it toasted, without thinking to ask about cross contamination precautions. So be sure to ask for it to NOT be toasted. The English Muffin also looks to be corn based. I know
