Saucy Franks, A Fun Gluten Free Dinner for the Kids - and Innerchild of Adults

Saucy Franks is one of my favourite kid's recipes to make, simply because my inner child loves it and it is so easy to make.  I think it took me longer to make the salad than it did this recipe.  This recipe was adapted to be a gluten free recipe, and I will list what gluten free products you will have to pay attention to.

Serves two adults and one child

Ingredients:
  • 2 - 3 Hotdogs
  • 3 tbsp margarine melted in microwave
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worscheshire Sauce (*read note below)
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • Your favourite gluten free pasta product
*Note: Be cautious with the brand of Worscheshire sauce.  You need to read the ingredients because some do contain malt.  We have found that the Lea Perrins brand is NOT gluten free.  However, we were delighted to notice that the Heinz brand found at any Wal-Mart in Edmonton was safe.  As always, please read the ingredients of non certified gluten free products.

Directions:
  1. Cut up hotdogs (frozen)
  2. Add all ingredients in large dish including hotdogs
  3. Place in microwave for 5 minutes covered
  4. Serve with pasta or rice
And watch for smiles!  let us know how this recipe brought a smile to someone's face!

Comments

  1. Isn't it funny how the Lea and Perrins Worcheshire Sauce is the States is gluten free, but not the Canadian brand? We must always maintain vigilance. Gluten free hot dogs are hard to find also.
